Recently widowed Léanne Vallauri (Deborah Krey) is back in her hometown of Brest to take command of the local La Crim, the crime squad. Luckily, for support she can count on her two best friends: Vanéssa Fabre (Charlotte Gaccio), a criminologist, and Elodie Quille (Garance Thenault), a doctor/pathologist. The case is the unusual and gruesome murder of Corentine Le Dantec, a perfect grandma loved by all. Except Léanne uncovers an abusive neighbor, a gang of con artists who scam and steal from the elderly, and their fence– leads which all turn out to be going in completely the wrong direction.

Krey is in Les Invisibles, and lately appeared in Piste Noire and Meurtres a Montauban. Gaccio recurs as Delphine on Astrid et Raphaelle. And Thenault appears everywhere, including Meurtres Sur La Côte Bleue.
Brest is a port city located at the northwest tip of France, and is the third-largest city in Brittany. Like Le Havre, Brest was extensively rebuilt following heavy bombardment in World War II.
Vincent Heneine (Lionel) appeared in 2024’s Follow, with Marie Colombe.
Yvan Le Bolloc’h (Cmsr. Pierre Pouchet) is a well-known TV host and radio performer.

The dedication (2’12”): The writer of Les Trois Brestoises, Nicolas Jean, died Sept 29, 2025. He also wrote many episodes of HPI, and the 2022 six-parter Prométhée.
The Commissioner introduces Isaac Lahelac as de Breizh même (2’51”), ‘himself from Brittany,’ He’s tagging Isaac as a Breton, a practice you would expect in a region with super-strong regional pride. Which translates into hiring preferences?
Chez les Cruchots avec la soupe à la grimace 1) probably references a character Cruchot in a movie comedy called Le Gendarme and its sequels. I’m not directly translating it because I can’t think of an American cultural equivalent. Although The Naked Gun…
2) ‘Having a grimace soup’ means ‘has an angry face/a sour puss.’
When greeting his editor (3’48”), the Commissioner says tu comment à gaze, de quique, which means roughly, ‘how’s it hanging,’ and I have no idea what de quique is; Quique is a name.
Léanne addresses Carroff as lieutenant-colonel Carroff (6’55”), when he had introduced himself as Colonel Erwan Carroff. Maybe it was a diss.
Mamie gâteau (10’18”) means ‘old trout/doting grandmother.’ I thought it would be gateaux, ‘cake,’ but the real expression doesn’t have the -x. You can find Mamie Gateaux online, but it’s a marketing pun for a business.
Léanne drives across the Pont de l'Iroise (10’48”), a magnificent suspension bridge across the L’Élorn River where it enters the l’Iroise Sea, a big bay. I suppose the bridge is the eastern gateway of Brest.
The location serving as the commissariat (14’30”) is at 15 Rue Dumont d'Urville in Plouzané, the offices of Des Requins et des Hommes (Sharks and Man), a marine environmental NGO, part of the European University Sea Institute. The view looks toward the Roscanvel Peninsula.
18’02”: The Francis Le Blé Stadium is named for the mayor of Brest from 1977 to 1982.
Il marche droit trouve toujours la route assez large, ‘He who walks straight always finds the road wide enough’ (24’18”), is a Breton saying that basically means you’ll encounter no obstacles if you follow the rules.
An interpelle is ‘questioning,’ but an interpel’ (26’08”) is ‘arrest.’
When they smash in the door of Julien’s place, Lionel shouts something that sounds like pas les gater, which seems to literally mean ‘don’t worse.’ I did my best.

The ‘body farm at Quantico’ refers to the research facility at George Mason University which gathers information about human decomposition.

Capucins (Quartier des Capucins in full) is a district in central Brest. But Le Gal is referring to the Ateliers des Capucins, a large covered square, reportedly the largest in Europe, about 200,000 square feet. It serves as a multiuse cultural and entertainment center for the city.
Léanne asks Isaac, tu me les loges tout de suite, ‘can you put them in for me right away.’ Loges refers to housing, but I expect she means to bring Pleibersky to the cop house.
