Tax The Rich

I normally post Falco episode translations two at a time, but it's American tax season, I'm preoccupied with my documents, and I’m exhausted. Therefore only one Falco this time.

Alex finally takes the plunge and acquires real estate— but it's a converted space that looks more like a squad room than an apartment. The brigade has moved too, and Eva’s not happy with technical issues at the new office.

Meanwhile, the squad investigates a skeleton uncovered on a vacant lot, and they link it first to an old missing person case, and then have the realization that they are really dealing with two homicides.

Alex continues the search for Edouard Ponthieux, the hood threatening Éléonore.

      Ah, Gravity, what people were watching at home in the mid-2010s.

When speaking of a marriage, l'alliance (4’01”) is the ring.

What Alex says about Pauline’s baby picture (4’08”) is slurred, I had to guess based on bonne nue.

5’25”: Eva says on pas à trouver des effets personnels, ‘we found no personal effects,’ followed by what sounds like d'Amiens, ‘from Amiens’ (the city), Damien, or two or three short words, d__ il __n.

Georges (6’37”) is a l’indic, ‘informant,’ a step above balance, ‘rat/snitch.’

7’11”: The bridge over the bassin/canal puts the location of the brigade's new office as next to Eglise Saint Jacques/Saint Christophe de la Villette. Eva’s waiting for Alex at 1 Rue Jomard, which today is the offices of a child & family support NGO.
      The correct translation would be ‘ultrasound,’ but it had to almost-rhyme with ‘pornography.’
      Joy asks Romain Qu'est-ce qui te brille?, ‘Why are you so shiny/glowing?’ It must mean ‘jumpy’
      A carte d’hibernatus is a sleeping/frozen security pass. I hope there’s also a joke here, that the coma guy’s card will work.

8’58”: It sounds like Eva says she’ll try to dépiner the old computer files. It’s not in any standard dictionary or translator, it’s French IT slang for ‘de-index’ or ‘detach.’ I’m putting ‘extract.’

Eva’s aerial photo (11’10”) is probably meant to be the town of Montreuil. But while there is a Rue du Sergent Bobillot in that Paris suburb, and it crosses Rue Michelet, Rue Kleber actually runs parallel to Bobillot.
      There’s a Android FOSS app called Cartes IGN that allows you to view aerial photos of France in different eras, but it’s probably not what Eva’s using.

12’04”: You can see the eglise in the background while Alex and Romain are talking.
      Romain maybe mumbles quand meme, but it must be qu'allons même, ‘what are we doing/where are we going’ or something like that.
      When they roar off they pass the eglise on Rue Crimée, so the two shots are geographically correct.

Perroa’s prickly neighbor (12’43”) is Jeanne Ferron from I Am Not an Easy Man, her funny character doesn’t get a name. It sounds like she signs off with J'espère qu'il a des enduit, (I hope he has some plaster/cover/smear), which I have taken some license in translating.

There’s no Rue des Tilleuls (14’28”) in the vicinity of where the skeleton was found, assuming it’s Montreuil.

18’25”: A clear case of art in the first degree.

19’44”: A good view of the machinery of the Pont Levant, the last lift-type drawbridge in Paris.

21’16”: I tried to figure out Brahni's exact words in Arabic, to the effect of ‘Show them where your mother's things are in the cellar’ or something like that, but I have no idea. Google Translate and two different Vosk modules were no help.

J'ai déconné (‘I messed up,’ 27’33”), is a phrase I can use a lot.

28’19”: Eva and Laure are having dinner at Chez Lili et Marcel, at the west end of the Pont de Bercy.

When Alex calls someone a grand sac, ‘big bag’ (33’54”), I assume it’s either 1) short for -bag, as in dirt- or scum-, or 2) ‘sad sack/loser.’

Eva and Alex learn Romain and Joy’s good news, and Alex comments (41’54”), il non morflé (literally, ‘he’s not feeling the pinch/hurting bad’). ‘He’s feeling no pain’ feels right.

French rock-paper-scissors (47’09”) is as you’d expect pierre-feuille-ciseau.
      Whereas check means ‘fist bump’ or even ‘high-five.’
      openEva barks okay-something, I can’t make it out, when they arrest Perroa.
