NOTES
Although Switzerland as a federal state was formed in 1848, it has been known as ‘the Confederation’ (0’28”) since medieval times when it was the Swiss Confederacy.
The map (2’01”) has no clues as to the series location.
Béa tells Lupe ‘no exaggeration/exaggerating’ (2’37”), when she clearly means for her not to be her usually overzealous self.
Aromat (3’24”) is a seasoning made by Knorr. The main ingredient is MSG.
One of the swears Béa uses in the series sounds like putain madre de merde (5’38”), which I’ve been translating as ‘motherfucking shit.’ I’ve suddenly had an insight that what she’s saying might be putainmaderie de merde, roughly: ‘fucking shit factory.’
Ovomaltine is the original name of Ovaltine. It was invented in Bern, where it is still known by the old name.
It occurs to me that when used as ‘Hey,’ dis (‘say,’ 13’07”) is like the British ‘I say.’
17’55”: I assume Walti is likening the activists to Jura because that Swiss canton was founded in 1979 only after a lengthy and occasionally violent movement to secede from the Bern canton.

I have to think that Marisol’s attraction to Adrien is some sort of joke about Adrien being the epitome of Swiss ‘manhood,’ and Marisol, despite her vaunted biculturalness, is still Swiss.

Pablo Vasquez (13’10”) is a Spanish football player for Sporting Gijón, a Second Division club.
Pingouin à col blanche (white-collared penguins) must refer to people in formal dress.
Cavalière officielle (official rider) seems to mean Jaqueline is his ‘date,’ although if she were a member of the Swiss equestrian team that would be a valid reason to put her in the front row.
