The fifth season concludes. Tetsuo is back in France and they're getting ready for the wedding. Astrid briefs him on her search for Denis Chartreux, the equestrian center monitor from hell.

Raph couldn't be more excited, because the squad has been called to a movie studio. A famous actor was shot to death, during a take, with a prop gun that was supposed to be loaded with blanks. Prior to that we see, Columbo-like, the SPOILER methodically set up his alibi and go through the steps to swap real bullets for blanks. But it turns out this 'great artist' didn't have the imagination to devise the plot on his own, but had to bring in a 'murder script doctor.' Astrid and Raph have to unmask the real architect of the crime.

People who rewrite scripts (10'44") in addition to script doctors are called script consultants in Hollywood.

'We have a set of consistent clues' (13'33") is usually what Astrid says.

17'04" is the first time we learn Melodie is Paul's wife.

During the office tour/interrogation Raph gives Paul Gérard, she mutters, Qu'a ne vais, 'That I won't/Think I won't' (25'12"), which I've not encountered before but seems to be a contraction of Je ne sais quoi, which everyone has heard of.

Alain Lamarck (26'45," ff.) was the author found responsible for a chambre close (locked room) murder in S01E04 (or S01E05 on the Prime Video Masterpiece channel).

It sounds like Lamarck says refuste or rifeuste or something similar (27'34"), but those aren't words. He should be repeating Gerard's excuse (plus juste) back to him, but Lamarck says yewst not juste.

Well, there's the second funeral (29'19"). Merde is 'shit' and so is chier, but in this case I'm putting 'crap.' I'm translating Qu'est-ce qu'il pluie, 'what is it raining?' (29'32") as 'when it rains?'-- as in 'when it rains, it pours.' La loi des séries (29'34") is an interesting idiom, it means 'the law of series.' 'Series' is short for 'string of bad luck,' which I can't make work, so I put 'bad luck comes in bunches.' I don't think I've ever addressed PTS (29'43"), which means Police Technical & Science; I just put Forensics.

30'44": The Lamarck metro station (the Rue Lamarck side of the Lamarck-Caulaincourt station) is next to 55 Rue Lamarck in eastern Montmartre.

When histoire doesn't mean 'history' it usually means 'story.' This has always bugged me, because to my ear, something like Vous pensez qu'elle Alain Lamarck chose à voir avec cette histoire?, 'You think Alain Lamarck has something to do with this story?' (30'50") just doesn't sound right.
        'What's the story here?' is a translation of a sentence with histoire that sounds right, it's English vernacular. But 'has something to do with this story' is not. I always end up doing what I did in this case, 'You think Alain Lamarck has something to do with all this?

Raph remarks that Lamarck is "a fucking manipulator, je me connais pas moi"--meaning 'I don't know myself' (41'16"). I'm told this last phrase is usually meant to be self-deprecating, which doesn't make sense here.

44'59": Dramatically, Mortensen's eyes are amazing here.

Yes, I daresay Mademoiselle Holmes does remember the Reichenbach Falls (51'47").

God, I hate cliffhangers.
