Mademoiselle Holmes S02E03

Mademoiselle Holmes S02E03, “Une histoire de soeurs” (Sisters Story), runtime 49:57
Subtitles download link

The brigade is called to the scene of an attack on celebrity choreographer Iris and her sister Violette who is also her personal assistant. Violette is missing presumed kidnapped, and needs her medication to control a heart condition. To make matters murky, the sisters seem to have issues.

Dewaere with Thomas Jouannet (C) as Chris, Tom Villa (R) as Samy, and Gavril Dartevelle as Jules.

It’s Take Your Teenager To Work Day for Chris. Charlie has her own sister issue now that she has proof April Moriarty is alive. April is either remorseful or doing a great job of pretending (she was aware Ben was taking photos of her). Charlie splurges on new wheels for her and Samy.

MISC

I don’t think we’ve seen Loïc this season.

NOTES

2’43”: Jules says Iris’s rapper boyfriend’s name is… Utz Iago? That’s what it sounds like.

6’23”: Florence says Sinon on va avoir tout de le réseau le train, ‘Otherwise we will have everything from the train network.’ I don’t think the last word is actually train, but that’s what it sounds like. This is a guess, but in context I think she’s saying, ‘Otherwise, we’ll be hearing from the local power elite.’

8’00”: When are we going to meet sockless Michel in Archives?

Saint-Séb’ (10’26”) is Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire, a suburb southeast of Nantes on the south side of the river.

Au doigt mouillé, ‘with wet finger’ (11’03”), means ‘which way the wind blows’ or ‘randomly.’ That's why Charlie looks at her finger.

The Musee d’Arts de Nantes (11’43”) is on Rue Gambetta near the Louis XVI column.

During dance rehearsal Iris shouts the instruction Tetris (14’38”), like the game. I’m so uncool; I had no idea that Tetris is the name for when a dancer forms their body into shapes like Tetris pieces.

Coupole (15’57”) means ‘dome,’ I don’t know what it means in hip-hop.

France Travail (17’23”) is the national unemployment agency, formerly called Pôle Emploi.

Georges is giving Samy shit (24’36”), but I’m not sure how he’s using the word communauté, which means things like community and fellowship. So I’m borrowing from Casablanca.

The Japanese-style gardens (26’59”) started in 1983 are the most widely known feature of the Ile de Versailles (27’50”), which is on the river Erdre in central Nantes. The island was created in 1831 from materials excavated during construction of a canal.

Passer a table (29’51”) means ‘time to eat’/’come to table,’ but colloquially it means ‘talk to the cops.’ To keep the idiom meal-related I’m putting ‘eat your broccoli.’

The painting Charlie marvels at in the museum (32’55”) is a Judith and Holoferne by an unknown artist.

The Dougie is a dance created in the 80s by Doug E Fresh.

To be fiché banque de France, ‘listed/flagged by the Bank of France’ (36’39”), means you’ve sort of been blacklisted by the banking sector due to your financial history.

Tuk-tuk (37’17”) is what pedicabs are called in Thailand.

37’37”: When was the last time Charlie carried a service weapon?

Roanne (40’’13”) is in central France about 35 miles west of Lyon.

Mokatines (41’02”) are tiny sponge cakes with coffee icing topped with almond bits.
